At Middletons, our rise and recline chairs are designed to help you find your perfect sitting position.

We understand that everyone’s needs are different. That’s why we've made sure you can customise your chair to suit you and your individual requirements.

When you buy a riser recliner from us, you will be asked to select your preferred motor type.

This article explains the difference between our unique high leg lift motor and our dual motor, to help you choose the right one for you.

Our high leg lift motor

If you want to be able to elevate your legs above the level of your hips, our unique high leg lift motor is for you. This motor is a single motor, which means that the footplate and the back plate of your chair move together. It allows you to gently tilt your chair back while keeping you in a comfortable, ninety-degree sitting position.

There are many benefits to keeping your feet elevated while sitting. If you suffer from painful or swollen feet and ankles, raising your feet can improve your circulation and reduce this uncomfortable swelling.

Sitting at ninety-degrees is also beneficial for people with breathing difficulties such as asthma or angina, as it opens up the airways.

This motor is incredibly easy to use. It comes with a simple, two-button remote. One button reclines your chair when pressed, and the other tilts you back up and takes you to a standing position.

Our dual motor

Our dual motor option allows you to move the backrest and the footrest of your chair independently of each other. This means you can tilt your chair as little or as far back as you choose. You can even use your chair in a completely horizontal position – perfect if you occasionally enjoy an afternoon nap.

This motor is a great choice for anyone who suffers from back pain. The two separate motors give you full control over your sitting position, so you can adjust your chair to provide support exactly where it's needed.

A dual motor chair is slightly more complicated to use than a single motor chair, as it comes with a four-button rather than a two-button remote. One button moves the tilts the backrest backwards and the second button lifts it back up again. The third button moves the footplate into a recline position, and the fourth closes the footplate back again and tilts your chair forward and takes you to a standing position.

Rise action

Whether you opt for our unique high leg lift motor or our dual motor, your chair will come with a rise action. This action gently tilts your chair to help you in and out, reducing pressure on your joints while providing additional support and stability and you move from sitting to standing and vice versa.
